Connecticut Unlimited Electrical Contractor/Journeyperson Electrical License (E-1, E-2)

	Requirements to Obtaining your License. Please note the Business and Law Examination is required for ALL Contractor licenses. To qualify for the Unlimited license, two (2) years as an unlimited licensed journeyperson or at least six (6) years of equivalent experience and training is required. 	Work that can be Done Under this License This license allows work limited to low voltage, alarm or signal work, audio and sound systems, and telephone-interconnect. The voltage of any system is not to exceed forty-eight (48) volts or five (5) amperes where such work commences at an outlet receptacle or connection previously installed by a person holding the proper electrical license. Unlimited Electrical Contractor can install, maintain, alter, repair any wire, cable, conduit, raceway, fixture or equipment that transmits, transforms, or uses electrical energy. Journeyperson Electrician can perform all of the same work as an Unlimited Electrical Contractor while under the employment of an Unlimited Electrical Contractor.
	Applying to get your License The application fee for a Contractor's license is $75.00 while the application fee for a journeyperson license is $45.00.
	Reciprocity Agreements There are no reciprocal agreements for this license as of this time.
	Continuing Education Electrical Contractors/Journeypersons are required to have 7 hours of continuing education each year.
	Exam Details The Connecticut Unlimited Journeyperson Electrical exam has 70 questions and a time limit of 180 minutes while the Unlimited Electrical Contractor exam has 80 questions and a time limit of 240 minutes. Both examinations require a 70% to pass. Topics on both examinations include general electrical knowledge; service, feeders, and branch circuits; grounding and bonding; conductors and cables; raceways and boxes; special occupancies and equipment; electrical power; motors; low voltage; lighting; illuminated signs; fire detection and alarm systems; safety information; overcurrent protection; and high voltage. The fee for the exam is $62 and pre-approval is required. Please note that the Connecticut Business and Law exam is also required to be passed if you are wanting to obtain the contractor's license.
