Vermont Plumbing License (Master, Journeyman)

Requirements to Obtaining your License

• Master plumbers must have a journeyman's license for 12 months prior and pass an examination.
• Journeyman plumbers must complete and apprenticeship program.

Work that can be Done Under this License

• A Master Plumbing License covers unlimited plumbing work including sanitary drainage, water supply and storm drainage.
• A Journeyman Plumbing license covers unlimited plumbing work including sanitary drainage, water supply, and storm drainage while under the supervision of a Master Plumber.

• Master license fee is $120
• Journeyman license fee is $90

Reciprocity Agreements

Reciprocity is considered on a case by case basis.

Continuing Education

8 hours of continuing education are required per renewal. 2 of the hours must include code review.

Exam Details

• After you have been approved to take the exam, contact ICC at 1-877-782-3926.
• The master exam has 105 questions and a time limit of 4 hours.
• The journeyman exam has 75 questions and a time limit of 3 hours.
• Topics on both examinations include plumbing fixtures, plumbing fundamentals, traps, cleanouts, drainage, vents, water distribution, plan and analysis, and local amendments.
